Biography

The Hon. Frank J. DeAngelis, J.S.C. was appointed as a Superior Court Judge in December 2016 and was confirmed by the New Jersey Senate in January 2017.  Since his confirmation, Judge DeAngelis has served in the Law Division, Civil Part in both Sussex and Morris County.  He was designated the Complex Business Litigation judge for Morris and Sussex County in September 2017.  Judge DeAngelis has presided over trials involving commercial disputes, disputes over the compensation of investment companies, medical malpractice, negligence, breach of contract and civil assault matters, among others. 

Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge DeAngelis had over twenty years of experience in domestic and international litigation. His experience included first- and third- party coverage and claims defense, bad faith, multi-layered policy defense of complex property losses, reinsurance, fire/arson losses, and property and casualty defense, all-risk and builder's risk policy defense, weather related catastrophic losses, environmental contamination, business interruption, time element, products liability defense, coal mining losses, defense of travel agents and tour operators under errors and omissions coverage, general commercial litigation, and real estate transactions.

Judge DeAngelis is a graduate of Elizabethtown College and Seton Hall University School of Law, and a member emeritus of the Seton Hall University School of Law Alumni Association. He was an Adjunct Professor of Law at Seton Hall University School of Law from 2001 to 2014, and was selected as the Adjunct Professor of the Year in 2009.

Judge DeAngelis is the co-author of New Jersey Insurance Coverage Litigation Treatise: A Practitioner's Guide, N.J. INST. FOR CONTINUING EDUC., A DIV. OF THE N.J. ST. BAR ASS'N (2017).

Judge DeAngelis served as the Chair of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, District V-A Ethics Committee from 2013-2016.  He also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Partners for Women and Justice, a non-profit that provides pro bono legal services to victims of domestic violence from 2012-2016.
