Biography
M. Sue Talia a certified family law specialist and private family law judge in Danville, California. She is a nationally recognized expert on limited scope representation, and chaired the Limited Representation Committee of the California Commission on Access to Justice, is a former member of the California State Bar’s Standing Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services, and numerous other organizations dedicated to improving access to justice by developing creative delivery models for the practice of law, especially services to moderate income individuals. Since 2005 she has chaired the national Unbundling Working Group of the Self Represented Litigation Network. In 2008, she was awarded the ABA’s prestigious Louis M. Brown Award for her lifetime of service in innovation of the delivery of legal services.
For the past seventeen years, she has traveled throughout the United States and Canada to speak and teach on unbundling and related access to justice issues and has served as a consultant to numerous states as they revised and expanded their unbundling rules.
She is the author of two books, How to Avoid the Divorce from Hell (and dance together at your daughter’s wedding) (second edition 2006) and Unbundling Your Divorce: How to Find a Lawyer to Help You Help Yourself. She also has published two e-books, Everything I Needed to Know I Learned After Law School and Divorce Chronicles: Life Affirming Divorce Poetry.
