Biography
Susan Markel is a CPA and has more than thirty years’ experience in the investigations, financial reporting and forensic accounting space, including work related to governmental or non-profit entities. She served as Chief Accountant of the SEC’s Division of Enforcement where she focused on financial fraud and financial reporting investigations for 15 years. And since joining AlixPartners in 2009, Susan has led over 100 investigations on behalf of audit committees, boards of directors, accounting firms and company management and provides expert witness testimony for complex accounting and auditing issues. She presents her investigational findings to management, boards of directors and governmental agencies on a routine basis. She received the SEC's Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her involvement in multiple milestone enforcement actions, as well as significant policy decisions. She has received several other awards or designations including The National Law Journal's "Governance, Risk and Compliance Trailblazer and Pioneer", Global Investigation Review’s “Women in Investigations” and as one of GIR’s “Top FCPA Practitioners”.
