Biography

Yael Shavit is Chief of the Consumer Protection Division of the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. In this role, Yael manages a team of attorneys responsible for enforcing Massachusetts’ consumer protection laws to ensure that consumers have access to fair financial products and services and are protected from predatory conduct. Yael supervises the Consumer Protection Division’s investigations and litigation, including matters involving predatory lending, debt collection, and mortgage lending. Yael is also a leader in a multistate coalition addressing federal higher education financing, servicing as lead counsel in numerous federal multistate lawsuits regarding the implementation of critical borrower protection regulations.

Prior to joining the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, Yael held a Ford Foundation Public Interest Fellowship at the National Consumer Law Center. She previously served as a Lecturer in Law and ran an affirmative litigation clinic at Yale Law School. Yael clerked for the Honorable Eric L. Clay of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit after receiving her J.D. from Yale Law School.
