Overview

Disability inclusion and accessibility are often overlooked in plans to strengthen diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility efforts at law firms. Studies have shown that the creation of an accessible work place starts with building a strong culture and community that supports an individual’s choice to disclose their disability and allows those individuals to receive the support they need to thrive at the work place. Participants in this program will learn best practices for how individual attorneys and law offices can be accessibility champions by using inclusive language, creating a disability resource group, adopting accessible meeting practices, and creating accessible content.  Participants will also be armed with a playbook for embedding accessibility into their law firms, in-house legal departments, or legal services organizations more deeply.

After completing this program participants will:

  • Better understand why disability inclusion and accessibility in the legal industry is important, the key definitions, and most recent statistics (20 minutes)
  • Learn how an individual attorney can take action, by using inclusive language, adopting accessible meeting practices, and creating accessible content (15 minutes)
  • Learn how legal organizations can take action by building community, creating a self-disclosure program, and removing physical and digital barriers (15 minutes)
  • Have your questions about disability inclusion and accessibility answered (10 minutes)

Who Should Attend:  This program will be of great interest to law firm attorneys, in-house counsel, attorneys working in legal services organizations and DEI professionals interested in learning how to take meaningful, practical steps toward greater disability inclusion and accessibility.
