Taryn L. Rucinski is the newly appointed Law Library Manager at the U.S. Court of International Trade, which has nationwide jurisdiction over civil actions arising from both U.S. customs and international trade laws. Celebrating her 10th year with the U.S. Federal Courts, Taryn has worked as a law librarian and legal information professional since 2010. Previously, she has worked as the Supervisory Librarian at the CIT, as the Branch Librarian for the Southern District of New York with the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and as Pace Law School’s former Environmental Law Librarian. She also has extensive teaching experience and has taught as an adjunct faculty member with such institutions as St. John’s University with their Graduate Library Science Program, as well as with Cardozo School of Law, Fordham University School of Law, and Pace University School of Law with their Legal Research and Writing programs.
Taryn has historically been very active in the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) and the Law Library Association of Greater New York (LLAGNY), winning numerous awards and grants; she also served as LLAGNY President for a grateful association during the pandemic. A prolific author, she was the long-time Editor in Chief of LLAGNY’s Law Lines Newsletter as well as the EIC of Pace’s Environmental Law Review during law school. A graduate of The College of New Jersey, she also received her MLIS from St. John’s University with a concentration in Law Librarianship and her J.D. and Certificate in Environmental Law from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University.
In recent years, Taryn was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor known as an acoustic neuroma (vestibular schwannoma), the treatment of which has left her with the invisible disabilities of partial deafness and the loss of her right balance nerve. Despite these setbacks, Taryn has also worked toward becoming a professional ballroom dancer and now competes and teaches nationally and internationally with her partner in the Latin Hustle while also advocating for individuals with visible and invisible disabilities in the larger ballroom and partner dance community.
