CPD Requirements: The Law Society of Ireland requires solicitors holding a Practising Certificate to complete a minimum of 25 CPD hours by 31 December of each year. Included in the 25 CPD hours, there are a minimum amount of required hours that must fall under the categories of professional development and solicitor wellbeing and client care and professional standards.

A solicitor who is a sole practitioner, compliance partner and/or anti-money laundering compliance partner must complete a minimum of 5 hours of professional development and solicitor wellbeing as well as a minimum of 3 hours of client care and professional standards, of which at least 1 hour is to cover the topics of accounting and anti-money laundering compliance. Please note the 1 hour minimum requirement on the matters of accounting and anti-money laundering compliance still applies to solicitors who have been entitled to a modified minimum CPD requirement.

A solicitor who is not a sole practitioner, compliance partner and/or anti-money laundering compliance partner must complete a minimum of 5 hours of professional development and solicitor wellbeing and at least 3 hours of client care and professional standards.

For all solicitors, a minimum of 5 hours of the annual 25 hours CPD requirement/20% of the annual CPD requirement (modified or otherwise) must be completed in group study format. A maximum of 20 hours/80% of a solicitor’s minimum CPD requirement (modified or otherwise) may be completed by eLearning.

Completing Your CPD Requirements with PLI: PLI and SEC Institute's live programs qualify as group study credit. While there is no limit to the number of CPD hours a solicitor can earn via group study programs, there is a maximum limit of 7 CPD hours per day.

PLI and SEC Institute's live webcasts, on-demand programs, MP3s and MP4s qualify as eLearning credit.

The Law Society of Ireland does not accredit any course or course provider. Solicitors holding a Practising Certificate from the Law Society of Ireland and European Lawyers registered with the Law Society of Ireland and holding current qualifying certificates may apply credits earned from PLI programs toward their CPD requirements. PLI recommends adding "CLE-General" or "CPD-General" as your license type on your PLI account. This will ensure you receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of a program.
