Biography
Carol Vargo is Vice President of Physician Practice Sustainability in the AMA Physician Satisfaction and Practice Sustainability Group. In this role, Carol leads AMA research, education, and technical support to physicians across all practice settings to adopt sustainable payment, delivery, and practice reforms. Current initiatives include the AMA’s efforts on Physician Workforce and Professional Development, commercial value-based payment reform, Behavioral Health Integration (BHI), and the High Performing Private Practice Initiative.
Carol also develops external partnerships with health systems, large employers, health plans, hospitals, technology vendors and other key stakeholders to advance the AMA strategic agenda on implementation and adoption of commercial, federal, and state value-based payment, delivery, and practice models. She is a member of the Business Group on Health’s Executive Committee on Value Purchasing.
Prior to joining PS2, Carol was on the AMA Advocacy Federal Affairs team, where she engaged with the White House, HHS, CMS, CMMI, the FTC and the DOJ on regulations pertaining to the Affordable Care Act, Antitrust, and Program Integrity. Carol is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, with a B.A. in Communications, and a recipient of a Masters in Health Sciences in Health Policy and Administration from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. Carol and her husband, Robert Blanchard, an engineer at DataBricks, reside in Washington, DC and Lakeville, Connecticut. They have two sons, Gray, age 23, and Henry, age 17.
