Biography
Ladan Stewart is a Partner in the Firm's Global White Collar / Investigations Practice, where she focuses on SEC and other regulatory enforcement matters, white collar investigations, civil litigation, and trials.
Before joining White & Case, Ladan served for over 8 years in the Division of Enforcement of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, most recently as Assistant Director and Regional Trial Counsel heading the SEC's crypto and cyber litigation unit. In this role, Ladan was charged with building a brand new trial unit—the first ever specialized litigation unit at the SEC—and overseeing the agency's crypto litigation program. Ladan was part of the leadership team responsible for developing and implementing the SEC's enforcement strategy with respect to crypto and cyber matters, working closely with staff and senior officials across the agency. Ladan also litigated the SEC's most complex and programmatically important crypto enforcement matters, including SEC v. Ripple, SEC v. Telegram, SEC v. Bankman-Fried, and SEC v. Coinbase. In addition to her work in the crypto and cyber space, Ladan investigated and litigated a broad range of potential violations of the federal securities laws, including investment adviser and broker-dealer misconduct, disclosure violations, offering frauds, and insider trading.
Prior to her tenure at the SEC, Ladan was in private practice for 12 years with two international law firms, where she represented individuals and corporations in regulatory enforcement and white collar matters, as well as securities and commercial litigation.
Ladan is a seasoned litigator, having handled high-stakes matters on behalf of both the SEC and private clients through all stages of litigation and trial. She offers clients a robust understanding of the federal securities laws as well as a unique perspective on SEC enforcement gained through her work as both an investigative attorney and litigator at the SEC and her leadership role in the Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit. And Ladan has unparalleled expertise in crypto enforcement and litigation, enabling her to advise clients navigating the ever-shifting regulatory landscape surrounding the crypto industry.
Ladan earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto and her J.D. from Columbia Law School.
