Biography

Sophia Rios manages Berger Montague PC’s San Diego office and practices in the Consumer Protection, Credit Reporting and Background Checks, and Antitrust practice groups. Sophia brings class action cases to protect a broad range of consumer rights, including cases on behalf of persons that have had their medical or online privacy invaded, have been wrongly reported as possible terrorists when applying for credit, have fallen victim to illegal payday loans, and have suffered other Fair Credit Reporting Act violations. Sophia is admitted to the California Bar and has been admitted pro hac vice in courts across the country. 

As a first-generation college student and woman of color, Sophia is committed to furthering diversity and inclusion in law firms. She serves on Berger Montague’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force and has participated in the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity’s Pathfinder Program.

Sophia has spoken at conferences hosted by the National Association of Consumer Advocates and National Consumer Law Center on issues relating to online privacy class actions and the changing jurisprudence regarding Article III standing for consumer claims. 

Sophia earned a J.D. at Stanford Law School and B.A. and B.S. at UC Berkeley. During law school, Sophia served as an extern Legal Adviser in the Office of Commissioner Julie Brill at the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, DC and co-founded the Stanford Critical Law Society, which serves as a student forum for the discussion of the relationship between law and race. Sophia was also a Lead Article Editor for the Stanford Environmental Law Journal. During her undergraduate studies, Sophia served as an intern at the White House Council of Environmental Quality.
