Media Player FAQ
Why are the slides in my On Demand program still in the video and not available to toggle/make larger?
Live programs aired prior to the official launch of our new media player were produced with the slides as part of the video. These programs, once available as On Demand program, maintain this formatting. All programs produced after the launch of the new media player have the slides separated from the video, both during live airing and once it’s available on demand. For those programs you’ll have the ability to choose the way you like to learn.

How can I make the slides larger?
The thumbnail in the lower right of your screen is initially where the program slides are presented. The slides will advance automatically as the presenter moves through their presentation. If you prefer to see the slides in the bigger window, you can swap the view. To do so, hover over the thumbnail and select “Switch view.”
Can I move the thumbnail to a different position?
The thumbnail, whether showing the slides or the video, can be moved according to your preference. You can move the thumbnail into one of four corners of the media player. There are two ways to do so - either by hovering over the thumbnail and using the Move action in the tool bar, or by dragging and dropping the thumbnail.
Click here to learn how to minimize or find your thumbnail.
Where did the thumbnail go? I lost my video / slides - help! Can I hide the thumbnail?
In the event there are no presentation slides to display, there will be no thumbnail available.
When there are presentation slides, the thumbnail, whether showing the slides or the video, can be minimized if you find it distracting or want to get it out of the way for a particular reason. There are two ways to do so - either by hovering over the thumbnail and using the Minimize action in the tool bar, or by dragging and dropping the thumbnail towards either side of the screen.
Note: If the user has slides maximized and the video in the thumbnail or hidden, and the presenter stops showing slides, the media player will automatically reinstate the video stream to the large window.

Simply click on the thumbnail tab in order to reveal the thumbnail.

Can I increase or decrease the quality of my Live program stream?
PLI automatically tries to send the highest quality video stream that your connection can handle. The system is constantly negotiating between the quality (size) of the video being sent and the size the user’s connection can handle without buffering. The user can specify what size file the would like to receive by clicking on the settings icon (gear) in the lower right action bar and selecting Quality.
Each time the user launches the PLI player, Auto is the default setting.
I am experiencing a lot of buffering, what can I do?
- Check your network connection and make sure you are able to access other sites and services.
- Try a different network connection - for example, if you are on a mobile network, try to connect to a wifi network, or vice versa.
- If you are using a public wi-fi spot, a coffee shop wi-fi spot or the like, please know that many of these types of connection specifically block or slow high-data connections, like those used for video streaming.
- Select a lower quality video stream.
- Try reloading the PLI media player.
Click here to read more about selecting a lower quality video stream.
I received an error in the media player, what can I do?

- In most cases, simply reloading the browser page will help solve the problem.
- If that doesn’t work, please make sure you have purchased the program and have rights to watch it.
- On pli.edu, go to your account and go to My Programs. Find the program you wish to watch and launch the media player from there.

Does the media player save my progress?
Yes, the media player has been updated so that your progress is saved across all the different programs you may be watching. If you use both our web-based player and our mobile app, your progress is shared between the two.
The progress bar on segment thumbnails reflects your current position within the program and indicates where in the program you will resume watching.
The progress bar does not reflect how much time you have logged against a program for credit-related purposes, especially if you tend to skip around the video or transcripts. A more accurate representation can be found in your CLE time card under the Credit menu.
Please click here to learn more about CLE time cards and requesting credit.
Please click here to learn more about continue watching resumption points.
How does the media player calculate where to resume my program for Continue Watching?
The media player creates a resumption point that reflects your last known position within a program, not your farthest position in a program. This is the time that is used for Continue Watching.
Example: if you were skipping around a video or transcript and jumped towards the end of the program, say time 45:00 but then jumped back towards the beginning to time 11:00, then closed out of the media player after watching for a few minutes to 13:00, your last known position, 13:00, will be your resumption point.
How do I verify attendance in the browser-based media player?
In order to verify your attendance, simply click the “Verify attendance” button when the browser-based player presents the alert to you while watching a streaming program.
A chime will sound when the alert presents. You have the option to silence these alerts.
If you are watching a PLI program in your mobile browser (tablet or phone) and your screen auto-locks, you will not see or hear the the alert. PLI strongly recommends you download our mobile app in order to enjoy the benefits of full mobile integration, including the ability to receive an attendance alert when your phone is locked.
For information about attendance tracking in our mobile app, please click here.
For information about attendance tracking for our downloadable programs, please click here.
Why did my video pause on its own?
If you are watching a streaming on demand video and haven’t verified your attendance, the video playback will pause. PLI will also stop prompting you to verify your attendance. Once you return to the program and verify your attendance, playback and time tracking will resume.
Please note: It is not possible to pause Live programming.
How do I submit for credit for programs?
To submit for credit, click on the Credit button at the top of the right-side main navigation bar. You will be presented with your CLE timecard, which shows you how much time you have accrued for each segment in a program.
If you notice there is a segment you have yet to finish, you can click on the entry to quickly jump to that segment to finish watching. Once you have watched all the content you wish from this program, click “Request Credit” at the bottom of screen.
Please note: During a live program, you can see how much time you have accrued, but you can not jump to another session.
You will now be presented with your CLE timecard to review once more, as well as a listing of the licenses on your profile. From this screen you can add a license from your PLI profile by clicking “Add a License”. Hit “Edit” in order to update or delete a license. Please note: deleting a license here will delete it from your PLI profile. Additionally, you may wish to keep a license on your profile, but not request credit for it - in which case, simply toggle the license off.
Once your licenses are in order, scroll down and click Continue.
Fill out the program evaluation, then click “Submit Request.”
